Mantra Om

There is great deal of mystery surrounding the sacred Mantra OM. Many have tried to unlock its secrets yet always there will remain more to be discovered. The earliest references we have to the Mantra OM are in that part of the vedic writings called the upanishads, the oldest of which were composed between 800-400 BC. The most concise explanation is found in the short Mandukya Upanishad which commences with the words.
OM. This eternal word is all: what was ,what is and what shall be, and what is beyond is in eternity. ALL is OM.
The word pronounced OM is broken down into three syllables A.U.M. A is referred to as waking consciousness, U is dreaming consciousness, M is sleeping consciousness.
Such is the reverence attached to this Divine word, that it is seen as no less than the creative word of God, and that which represents the power which orders creation.
In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him; and without Him was nothing that was made.
We can not do better here than to dedicate and equate the Mantra OM with the Holy Trinity, that is the triune nature of God as understood by the western and christian mind. The trinity has a direct relationship with man mortal and Divine, we use the mantra here as a means of awakening the three parts of man to that spiritual level where he belongs.
Meditation
OM, the most ancient name of God represents that which is without limit yet complete in itself.
Start your mantric repetition with a deep inbreath, and on the outbreath let the sound of the mantra vibrate throughout your body, reaching out to the skin surface and beyond.
Dedicate the mantra OM to omnipotence, the generetive power of all life. After an inbreath intone the mantra deep within yourself at the level of will, OM representing the All Powerful. Understand christ's statement: "I and my Father are one."
Dedicate the mantra OM to omnipotence, the all knowing one, OM representing the Divine Word or Logos. Harmonize your mantra with this principle of Truth. Understand christ's statement: "I am the Truth."
Dedicate the mantra to omnipresence, the ever present and sustaining life principle. Here and now. Undrstand christ's statement: "I am the life."
Finally dedicate the mantra OM to understanding its triune nature in one act of comprehension, and christ's
"I am the way (will), the Truth (logos), and the life (Love)."
